I Love My Body…But I Want To Love It More

December 28, 2011

Ok! This is it. This is THE YEAR I finally integrate all of the healthy habits that I know will bring me longevity, health, wellness and total pride in me and my body – finally unifying my mind, spirit and body. And I am not just saying it…

Don’t get me wrong, I feel great! I love my body actually – it’s shape and its curves it’s strength and even its sexiness. I do not loath my body, but I do want to take things to the next level. I am going to be 40 this year and I feel instinctively that I need to shed some habits that don’t serve me anymore and really commit to ones that do. That will allow me to live and grow into the next phases of my life. I want to be with my kids for a really, really, really long time! And I have hope! My grandfather was a fit as a fiddle til the ripe old age of 102. Good genes I say…

I am not talking about a diet. I am talking about a life style change. I am talking about cleaning my proverbial house of all the old habits that don’t feel good anymore and instead of just x-ing them out, replacing them with ways of living that feel fantastic and that make me feel proud. Not just for 3 months but for a life time.

And I am going to fill you in on what works in my little plan…aren’t you super excited?! HA! Hope so. Because I hope to use this as a platform for my next online coaching program – wrapping it up and serving all my learning and “best practices” to you on a silver platter!

So this is my premise for my plan/experimentation:

  • take stock of everything that isn’t working
  • decide on a set of doable new habits that will serve me for a life time
  • figure out a way to support/encourage/reward myself
  • mediate and cultivate a deep connection to the voice of my body
  • allow this voice to be heard whenever decisions about my body and health are related
  • push the envelope and challenge myself but find the fine line between a great challenge and burn out

I am excited! I believe that none of us are fully equipped to live healthy lives. Why? Because we are constantly being bombarded with one stay-slim-tip after another or one research result after another. We are a culture perpetually searching for the silver bullet, the tip, the program, the exercise that will give us optimal health. But, I just have this feeling that I KNOW WHAT IS BEST for me and what is going to lead me to health, wellness and a long life. I just have to get to that source of information, let it in and then act on it. We all do.

And, I want this to be FUN and enjoyable and do-able. I want to honor my body once and for all and the only way I can do that is by listening to it and taking care of it the way it needs to be cared for. And that is unique for me.

Then there is this picture we have in our heads of what “ideal” health is. Oh man, what a load of crap that is and we ALL know it. If you are drawn to what I am saying here, the first thing you need to do is to create your own image of what an ideal YOU looks like, not based on consumer impulses, magazines, your friends, your mother, your sister, what a man thinks, but what you KNOW inside of yourself is the most beautiful version of you. And that doesn’t look like anyone else, sister….

So, the first big thing I will do in the next few days, is to make a list of all my crappy habits that don’t feel good and then a list of all the positive habits that when instilled, will make me feel so proud! And this will of course be taken from tips and tricks that I have learned through the years that have resonated with my body….for example, my body is not a lover of carbs, nor does it enjoy 6-7 days a week of exercise, coffee it could do without and enjoying a glass of wine once a week is much better for my body than habitually drinking every night. eating slow and mindful is so delightful and actually ENJOYING my food is the bomb, and the list goes on!

Stay tuned to my little journey here. I will be tying in lots of topics that relate to this topic and self empowerment as a whole as well. It is all about uniting with my body in 2012 and bringing out more of the BEST of me!
