As a follower of TJM, you know from my work how much I believe how living a joyful life is an inside job. Being a good parent is also an inside job! You can read a gazilion books about what to do “right” at every stage of your child’s life, but if you are not actively working on YOU – learning the “inside skills” that make you more joyful and content with your life, you are missing out on enjoying your life as a parent and feeling good about yourself while doing it.
Recently I had the honor of speaking with Shelly Lefkoe (listen to PART 1 of our interview below). Shelly is the co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul – Guide to Effective Parenting. We spoke about her flagship program – Parenting the Lefkoe Way.
If you are on a mobile device you won’t see an audio player above, so you can access the recording by going HERE.
In all of my programs I develop at TJM, I always add in an opportunity for the participants to look at and re-examine their belief system and it’s connection to a joyful life. Shelly and I spoke extensively about this. The unique (and totally cool) thing about what Shelly helps parents with is really helping you see how YOUR beliefs shape your children’s beliefs. Shelly is all about helping bring consciousness into the parenting process, teaching you the skills to help you EMPOWER your child.
That is a great question, don’t you think? Parenting the Lefkoe Way is designed to help you do just that.
Ok, enough talking…I want you guys to listen to PART 1 of my interview with Shelly. Get a notepad and pen out now because you are going to want to take notes mama! Please look for a special bit of advice Shelly gives around the 12.30 min mark. You will hear me say “That’s fantastic!” after. This one bit of advice has made communicating with my children more deliberate, less unconscious and brings me immediately back to the MOMENT with my kids – the place where powerful parenting happens! Hope it resonates as much with you.
Look out for another post in a few days with the final half of our interview. In PART 2, Shelly talks more about breaking down limiting beliefs and gives an amazing perspective on why we get distracted by our phones or pc’s, at the cost of being present with our kids. You don’t want to miss it.
